At this outdoor presentation, 35 students who identity as Indigenous were presented with a quilt they selected, which was followed by a ceremonious smudging. When wrapped inside its comforting embrace, these quilts symbolize the support, respect, and compassion that Canadians hold for Indigenous peoples. Each quilt is unique in design, representing the uniqueness of the individual who the quilt honours.
Quilts for Survivors, founded by Vanessa Grénier from Missanabie Cree First Nation, is comprised of volunteers spanning across the country who collectively handcraft full-sized quilts. These quilts are presented to survivors of the Residential School System and individuals who have experienced trauma.
Thank you to Vanessa, Diana, and Vanessa's Grandma for honouring our students in such a remarkable way!
