Families joined students and staff for a day of interactive and engaging outdoor learning and activities. Outdoor activities consisted of sandcastle building, a range of collaborative games, face painting, and inflatable bouncy castles.
At this event, students engaged in learning about Indigenous culture from DSB1 educators, and members of Beaverhouse First Nation, Timiskaming First Nation, and Matachewan First Nation. Indigenous Student Advisor, Nate McMartin, served as firekeeper for the sacred fire and assisted students in cooking bannock over the fire pit. Students participated in beading, drumming and learned about the Jingle Dress Dance.
Also present at the event, members of the District of Timiskaming Emergency Medical Services and the Englehart and Area Fire Department provided students with education about their vehicles, tools, and equipment.
