International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples

International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples recognizes the rich cultures, languages, histories, and valuable contributions of Indigenous people around the world.

This day of significance occurs amidst the International Decade of Indigenous Languages, which focuses on preserving, revitalizing, and promoting Indigenous languages. At DSB1, students play an active role in language preservation through participation in Indigenous language courses across eight of our DSB1 schools.

For 2023, the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples theme is Indigenous Youth as Agents of Change for Self-determination. This year's theme centers on the crucial and active role that Indigenous youth play as changemakers and decision-makers about issues impacting our collective future. It highlights the importance of Indigenous youth representation and participation and the need to harness the skills, solutions, and contributions of Indigenous youth in creating a more sustainable, peaceful future for all.
