Too often, we think of reducing absences as the job of parents or school administrators in the front office. Although, communities can make a difference in helping schools address chronic absence by building public awareness and leveraging resources.

The upcoming District School Board Ontario North East Parent Involvement Committee (PIC) meeting is occurring virtually on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, at 6:00 p.m. through Microsoft Teams.

At District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1), one of our three Strategic Priorities is Equity, where we anticipate, identify and work to remove barriers for each learner.

One of the many ways this Strategic Priority is actualized within our schools is through understanding the needs of our students, where we respond to their diverse learning needs through informed decisions and resource allocation.

At District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) secondary schools, students engage in enriching and rewarding opportunities to take their learning from within the classroom and apply it in hands-on ways through real-world applications with the Cooperative Education (Co-Op) Program. Cooperative Education provides students valuable work experience while earning secondary school credits toward their diploma.

For the 2023-2024 school year, families and incoming Kindergarten students can register in-person at Elementary schools or online through our Student Registration page.

We know that registering your child for Kindergarten is an important milestone. At DSB1, we’re committed to providing families with the necessary tools and resources to help support student registration and their transition into the Kindergarten program.

We are eager to receive your input on the 2023-2024 Draft School Year Calendar. The Draft School Year Calendar was created in partnership with senior administrators of three other local school boards.

February is Kindergarten Registration Month across District School Board Ontario North East!

For the 2023-2024 school year, we are pleased to offer families and incoming Kindergarten students the option to register either in-person at Elementary schools or online.

The third Monday of January each year is observed as Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  In honour of this day, throughout DSB1 schools, students learn about Martin Luther King Jr. and his impactful role as a civil rights leader.

Across DSB1, we’re excited to welcome back all students and staff on Monday, January 9! We hope you had a wonderful winter break and are eager to engage in more learning as we enter 2023 together.

We’re incredibly pleased to present the winning artwork for the 2022 Holiday Card Contest! Created by a Grade 2 student at Central Public School! Our DSB1 Holiday Greeting Card will be shared with community members across the region.

We wish our students, staff, and families a healthy, happy, and safe winter break and holiday season!

All DSB1 schools will re-open for learning on Monday, January 9, 2023.

The District School Board Ontario North East (DSB1) inaugural meeting of the Board of Trustees occurred on Tuesday, November 15, 2022. The meeting, which took place at the Schumacher Board Office, began with a procession into the board room led by Trustee Meunier who provided a bagpipe entrance.

Flags are flown at half-mast on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, to mark The National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
